Many People wonder if it is possible to make a decent source of income on eBay, so I have compiled what I believe to be the Top 6 ways to make money on eBay. If you have tried any of these methods, let me know in the comments.

6. Look for local and unique products to sell – On eBay, there are a lot of people selling the same things, so the best way to avoid a crowded product market is to find something unique to your region that people want elsewhere. It may be a regional food or items from a specialty store nearby. If people want it, and can’t get it elsewhere, then there is a good chance you can make money selling it on eBay.

5. Shop Garage Sales – A lot of times people don’t realize what they are getting rid of when they hold a garage sale. Start early on a Saturday morning and set a limit for how much you are going to spend, say $50 to start with. Look for items that have value and push for the cheapest price you can get. Don’t be naïve, sometimes other people’s junk is really actually junk. Pick up $50 worth of goods and spend the week selling it all on eBay, and buy multiple items so that you don’t get burned if something doesn’t sell like you thought it would. If you make more than $50 selling everything, then consider upping your limit next week.

4. Drop ShipI – I can’t personally vouch for this one since I haven’t tried it, but there are companies that will drop ship directly to your buyer without you ever to touch a product. Be careful with this one though, some companies require you to pay in advance for a bulk order of items leaving you on hook for selling them all. Research all potential suppliers carefully, and check to see if they have any complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Just remember to do your homework and be careful with this one.

3. Check pawn shops, thrift stores, and used book stores – Similar to garage sale hunting, if you can find a great deal on an item in a pawn shop, thrift store, or used book store, there is a good chance that someone somewhere is willing to pay more for it. The key here is to pick a specialty. If you don’t know anything about antiques, don’t go around buying all the antiques in your town and trying to sell them at a profit. If you are a musician, maybe check pawn shops for used instruments that are selling for below their true value. The key is to stick to what you know.

2. Clearance Items – Check your weekly mailers for great deals at Wal-Mart, Target, or other big discount stores. Also, check the clearance sections of stores and shop at deep discount stores like Ross or Marshalls. If you can find an amazing deal on a new DVD or anything of value, you can possible turn around and sell it on eBay for a small profit.

And the #1 way to make money on eBay is…

1. Have an eBay Garage Sale! – We all have junk that sits in closets that we never use and that will never get used again. Perhaps you have wedding or graduation presents that you didn’t really like but couldn’t bear to throw out. Whatever the case, instead of throwing it out or letting it take up space in your house, sell it on eBay! This is by far the easiest way to make money on eBay because you don’t have to go anywhere or pay for anything.

For any of these suggestions that require you to purchase something that you turn around and sell, I would highly recommend getting a web enabled phone or PDA in order to check for completed eBay auctions before you purchase the items. This will give you a quick idea if you can actually sell for a profit. Come back later for more eBay tips, and happy selling!
