If you have, then here is a quick recap for you:
- Turn on your radio.-You can’t win if you don’t listen
- Try to win.-If you don’t try, you won’t win
- Expand your tastes in music.-More stations=More chances to win
- Visit radio station websites.-Stay updated on all the contests
- Keep track of the rules and regulations for each station. -Don’t get disqualified because you forgot that you can only win once a month
- Be grateful for everything that you win
Now that we have the basics out of the way we can get into some ways to really help boost your odds of winning. Some of these tips may seem obvious to you, but following them to the letter can make the difference between winning and losing. However, as you may know, there is no magic trick to always win radio contests. Most of the time you will lose, but if you are persistent and follow our these tips, then you will greatly improve your chances of winning.
Now that you have visted the radio websites and found out when the contest will happen, you need to prepare yourself.
- Have the number you are calling ready to redial.Every second you waste dialing the number for the radio station is a another chance you are giving up to win. The more times you can dial before they get a winner, the better your chances are at winning the contest.
- Start calling!
- Use as many phones as possible.
- If the line is busy, hang up and redial.
- Keep dialing until you hear a winner.
- If someone answers the phone, sound REALLY EXCITED.
Don’t try to wait or time it so you are a specific caller. If you know that a contest will be right after a certain song, start calling before the song even ends. Radio stations typically have a delay from when they say something in person and when you hear it over your radio. Sometimes DJs will take this into account when answering phone lines, and sometimes they won’t. I have won contests before where they have picked up and told me I was a winner before they even said to call in!
You have two hands! Use them! Use any phone you can get ahold of to try to win. Two cell phones, a cell phone and a landline, multiple lines on a land line, anything you can do to increase the amount of times you can dial within the 1-5 minutes they take to get a winner. If you have friends or family nearby, make sure to enlist them. There have been times when I have had more 10 people dialing on more than 15 phones all trying to win the same contest. There have also been times when, trying to be caller 10, we end up being callers 1,2,4,5,6,8 and 10.
This may seem like a no brainer, but I’m amazed at how many people try to call once, get a busy signal then give up. Keep hitting that redial button and remember that every call is a free chance to win the prize you want.
Every DJ is different. Some get their winners right away. Some like to wait. Unless you are sure that they have a winner, or unless it has been an extraordinarily long time (15 minutes), you should keep calling until you hear them announce a winner. There have been times where I will dial for 5 minutes straight and then it will ring and the DJ will tell me I am caller 1!.
And my last tip for the day (don’t worry, still more to come).
There is really no set in stone rules for radio contests. They kind of get to make them up as they go along and can really change them at any time. Many times DJs will simply want a “good winner”. That means that if you don’t sound excited, they might just say “Sorry you’re caller 9! Try again!” and then give the prize to the next caller. So if you ever get a chance to speak to a DJ: FREAK OUT and say “OH MY GOSH! AM I THE WINNER?!!?” and hopefully they will decide to make you the winner.
Our next post will get into some of the more advance tricks and techniques for winning radio contests, so bookmark this page and check back often! IF you have won any contests lately, let us know in the comment section below!
Good Luck!

hi, I have stumble upon this radio contests.
Am I in for the contests for May?
Mias last blog post..What’s your rank?
so how long does it take for you to win a contest?
Sam it all depends on a couple things.
How much you are trying and how popular the contest is.
If I am diligently trying to win every contest I hear about, then I will almost surely win 2-3 contests a month minimum.
Beckie (the other author of this post) uses two landlines and a cell phone, and tries to win ever contest she hears about. She will regularly win 2-3 contests per week!
I have to say that winning has become a bit more difficult but that should never detour anyone. But yes, since everyone, I mean almost everyone has a cell phone. It’s ALMOST impossible to get through.
But one should never give up. Consider your odds better winning a local radio station contest vs. a nationally advertised sweepstakes or the Mega Millions. Much better odds, yes.

Any comments about the use of a MagicJack (in a USB port) for a new line? I understand these have “ads” on them. This must make redialing very very slow? I’d love to know.
I tried a friends magic Jack and there is NO WAY this could work for calling a radio station. It has no busy signals, (just dead air), and the rings are often not real, and it cuts off to dialtone unexpectedly, plus the behaviour varies with every call. Glad I didn’t buy this.
